I believe this may have been made by 'Chrisken' bobbins who were based in Newbury, and who made bobbins from the 1980's to 2002. The wood is hardwood - possibly mahogany or more likely ebony. The tiny 'babe' bobbins are a lighter fruitwood and fit perfectly into their respective slots - they slide up and down within the shank of the bobbin.
