The length allows all the beads to be put on the needle at once for most jewellery projects, thus avoiding miscounts and colour mistakes. These are so much easier to thread than the usual needles and fit easily through size 11/0 beads, they fit easily through the size 15/0s too, but I have not tested how many passes with thread it would allow.
